Fun Facts
- When he was in his fifties, my dad took up gliding and had his own plane. I thrilled to ride with him rides over Miami, but wouldn’t allow him to make loops. I also glided silently over glaciers in Gstaad, Switzerland, amazed at the grace, beauty, and silence, slicing through what felt like heaven.
- I’m an adventurer. Scuba diving, bicycling through Europe, yoga in Iceland and Panama, skiing out West, canoeing in the springs of Florida. But you’ll never find me jumping out of an airplane.
- In my fifties, I joined Team in Training of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, raising funds to support blood cancer research, and completing multiple century bike rides. At the time, the miracle drug—Gleevec—was discovered as a treatment and possible cure for Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML), a blood cancer previously known as a death sentence. Ten years later, while training for my first half marathon, I was diagnosed with CML. Call it fate or bizarre coincidence! A second-generation CML drug saved my life. After five years of treatment and six years post-treatment, I’m considered cured.
- Our son Benji is the go-to person about anything concerning fishing, ancient civilizations, and a wide variety of little-known facts. He’s one of the team at Atlanta’s best barbeque joint, Community-Que BBQ. Just ask for Benji!
- My talented, lovely stepdaughter and three amazing grandchildren are sources of joy, fun, and love.
- I was one of the nerdy students who hated boring multiple-choice exams but loved nothing better than assignments of 30+ page term papers requiring lots of research! All my friends would sigh when I declined social invitations to hole-up in the library instead. Bliss.
- I keep inspirational quotes above my laptop. Three of my favorites are:
When we don’t sacrifice for what we want, what we want becomes the sacrifice.
-- Urs Baumgartner
Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.
-- Harriet Beecher Stowe
Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

- My parents took me and my three siblings camping in a trailer we named Togetherness. We visited every state in the country except Hawaii and Alaska. Now, I lack only a trip to Alaska to have visited all fifty states.

- My husband took up rock climbing in his 60’s! He’s made the news at Atlanta’s Stone Summit by becoming the oldest person to pass lead climbing certification.
- We’ve been married for 38 years packed with adventures. And he’s one of my critique group buddies, too!
